Solar Motor
BREL HOME was the basis for the introduction of the battery motor with solar panel. While the major brands were not yet ready to introduce completely cordless motors, Erik Budding and Reinoud Arts paved the way for this new phenomenon.
Now, together with us, they are introducing a new technology that bypass WiFi signals and uses SIM cards to connect devices to the cloud.
A game changer in the solar blind industry: a fully solar powered, cloud based roller shade motor equipped with a NB-IoT SIM card
Together with Brel and Vodafone we created this solar motor system. Equipped with SIM cards so the motors can always be reached, also when installed on modern isolated buildings where Wi-Fi has a hard time to reach the motors. The motors run on a extensive cloud IoT platform that is able to control thousands devices, read out their status and set programs for them.

Challenges
The challenges in this project included designing a reliable solar-powered motor system. Ensuring compatibility with NB-IoT SIM cards and Vodafone's IoT platform required significant collaboration and technical integration. Another challenge involved optimizing the motor to operate efficiently with solar power while maintaining consistent performance. Finally, developing a robust cloud-based platform to control the devices, monitor their statuses, and set programs added complexities in terms of scalability, and real-time responsiveness.
SPINNOV’s Role
Together with Brel and Vodafone, we developed an innovative solar motor system equipped with NB-IoT SIM cards, ensuring reliable connectivity even in modern, insulated buildings where Wi-Fi struggles to penetrate. These motors operate on a robust, cloud-based IoT platform, capable of managing thousands of devices simultaneously. The platform enables real-time status monitoring, precise control, and scheduling, providing a scalable and efficient solution for the solar blind industry. This system ensures seamless performance, regardless of location, revolutionizing how solar-powered motors are controlled and managed.
